Building Materials & Coatings Filling
Liquid waterproof coating filling line for 4-30L pails
Client Requirements
- Filling containers: 4L, 25L, and 30L pails (multiple specifications)
- Automation processes include: Automatic pail stack feeding, automatic pail separation, automatic pail feeding into filling machine, automatic lid placement, automatic lid pressing, automatic palletizing, automatic pallet discharge,
- Material characteristics:
Normal viscosity: 18,000-45,000 cps
Maximum viscosity: up to 180,000 cps
Material contains glass fiber - Project location: Mexico
On-Site Conditions Before Upgrade
Low automation level, high physical workload for operators, frequent material contact with personnel, significant safety risks, manual operations included.
- Container feeding: Workers manually separated stacked pails and placed each pail onto a scale for filling.
- Filling: A discharge lever was installed under the reactor tank. Operators manually controlled the filling volume and closed the lever once the estimated weight was reached.
- Lid pressing: Workers manually hammer-press lids into place.
- Palletizing: Operators manually lifted each filled pail onto pallets one by one.
Operating Process
- Stacks of empty pails are manually loaded onto the pail-stack conveyor.
- The destacker automatically lifts the entire stack to singulate the bottom pail, which is then transferred to the infeed conveyor.
- Empty pails enter the buffer zone in groups of four and are simultaneously indexed into the filling station.
- The filling line utilizes integrated bottom-sealing valves. Upon activation, the diaphragm pump starts the filling cycle until the target weight is achieved, at which point the valve closes. In parallel, the next batch of four pails reaches the buffer zone.
- Filled pails are discharged to the outfeed conveyor while the buffered empty pails are concurrently indexed into the filling station.
- Filled pails proceed to the automatic lid-placement station. Lids are automatically applied and secured as the pails pass through the lid-pressing (crimping) conveyor.
- Labeling:
25-30L Pails: Labeled by a side-application system during the lid-pressing stage.
4L Pails: Labeled by a top-application system following the lid-pressing process. - A mechanical gripper pre-stacks the pails (2-4 layers) according to pre-configured specifications. A palletizing robot then transfers the stacked units onto pallets.
- Completed pallets are discharged from the line, while empty pallets are automatically singulated and supplied from the pallet magazine to the palletizing station.
